The Knox Greens - Burning Issues

There's a lot of them around here. The Midcoast, as well as not being immune from the onslaught of corporate globalization (and shut out of the democratic process to boot), is a crucible of "paradise-meets-development." Hot spots come up faster than the average citizen can react. Whether its TIF's, big box stores, or the continued gentrification of this "Gold Coast," there are more than a few things going down. Some of which some of us are involved in in some ways or another.

  • Aquaculture along Maine's Rocky Coast. Fish farms are not necessarily the cuddly abodes you'd expect. We're not always talking clean family farms here, after all. Check this out for info on how these factories are finding themselves set right up in Penobscot Bay. Say hey to Ron, while you're at it.
  • Water conservation. There's a drought on, you know. The guy behind that link back there has an idea how we each help in that Green way of ours to make it less damaging. Contact him for more info. Watch this issue develop.
  • Asphalt Mine in Washington! Not D.C. Not that state out West. But the real Washington is threatened. Local resistance shook itself off after a long round one to find itself still standing. (Congratulations!) They'll be facing continued pressure on this from one of the largest blacktop manufacturers inthe USA. Hit that link back there to help 'em out.
  • Peace and Justice Center - Knox. We're thinking about starting one up here. After all, Portand and Bangor have ones. So do Belfast and Blue Hill. Why not Rockland? If interested in helping get this going, please click on that link back there.

Stay tuned.
