MINUTES OF THE KNOX GREENS GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

April 26, 2001 6:45 pm

ROCKLAND REC CENTER, Rockland, Maine

8 present: Michael Ray, Lynne Williams, Mark Elwin, Charles

Batty, Joanne Batty, Herb Hoche, Ron Huber, Cindy McIntyre

Lynne notified us of the low-power radio station WRFR 93.3 fm

being installed at the Penobscot School and suggested we could

have programs or other participation in it.

Mark updated us on the status of getting a refund of our

expenses - particularly the hotel fee - due to Felix Brown's

last-minute cancellation. Lynne said we should send a letter to

the manager to try to encourage the band to reimburse us.

Mike passed around copies of the state Green Independent Party's

bylaws to encourage input for their revision at the May 19 State

Green Party Convention at USM in Portland.

Lynne updated us on a workgroup she attends with David Kubiak,

Jonathan Carter and others regarding Corporate Accountability.

She said David's long-term goal is to strip corporations of their

legal "personhood." A short-term goal is to introduce legislation

next year in Augusta that acknowledge a corporation's purpose is

to make profits, but not at the expense of human dignity, the

environment, worker's rights, and other social justice

conditions. This is being worked on by a coalition of groups;

Lynne said she believes 4 other states are working on a similar

change to the corporate statutes.

Cindy read a letter to the Maine Rural Worker's Coalition in

support of the Livable Wage Rally to be held May 4 in Augusta. It

was approved and signed. It was also agreed to send the letter to

the editors of the newspapers. She also passed around copies of

the Economic Bill of Rights posters to be distributed.

Mike suggested making arrangements for a "rapid response"

spokesperson(s) to speak on behalf of the Knox Greens when issues

come up between meetings. Although a consensus for any

communications or press information will be sought at the General

Membership meetings whenever possible, it is not always feasible

to wait. Cindy suggested having Mike as the official spokesperson

and he said he would prefer we work on issues and positions we

can agree on so that he knows how best to put forth our positions

should the opportunity come up. We agreed to work on this at the

next meeting.

Mike said he is organizing the checking account's records so

Joanne can take over as Treasurer. We had $952.38 in the account.

Mark wants a list of events we can have a table at to hand out

brochures and sell stuff. He also proposed we have a float at the

Lobster Fest.

Next meeting: May 24 - Lynne will facilitate
