MINUTES OF KNOX GREENS - JAN. 25, 2001

ROCKLAND REC CENTER

PRESENT: Mike Ray, Mark Elwin, Herb Hoche, Cindy McIntyre, Chuck and Joanne Batty

SAMPLE BYLAWS: Mike presented sample bylaws which we discussed. We made

suggestions and agreed to make further suggestions and then validate the Bylaws at

the next meeting to be held on Feb. 22, 2001 (?)

DEFINING MEMBERSHIP/VOTING PRIVILEGES: We discussed that the General Membership

would be open to even non-registered members of the Green Independent Party, and

they could serve on working groups and participate in discussions, but not vote.

Voting rights are to be held only by registered GIP members. The status of

under-voting age youth is uncertain, whether they have full or partial voting

rights.

Other issues to define regarding membership: Is meeting attendance a requisite?

Must one pay dues to be a voting member?

NAME OF OUR GROUP: It was discussed that our name be more inclusive of Midcoast

area, such as Midcoast Greens or Pen Bay Greens. However it was agreed that we'd

lose name recognition if we changed, so we will simply be the Knox Greens.

CONSENSUS VS ROBERTS RULES: The pros and cons were discussed.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING FREQUENCY: It was agreed that it should be monthly

FACILITATOR: Herb suggested that Will Neils be asked to give us a talk on how to

facilitate a meeting productively.

OTHER: Herb said we should focus less on politics and more on "the movement,"

such as education, coalition-building, arts, the goodwill and comaraderie

generated by our Blue Goose Dances.

NEXT MONTH AGENDA TO INCLUDE:

*Discussion and validation of Bylaws

*Elect or assign officers and committee chairs

*Appoint facilitator and set next meeting date
