[IMAGE]sunflower.gif     The Midcoast Greens

Greens worldwide share the values of grassroots democracy, social justice, ecological wisdom, and non-violence. The Midcoast Greens are a proud Local Group of the Maine Green Independent Party - arguably the oldest State Green Party in the US. Which, in turn, is an equally proud affliate of the Green Party of the United States.

Our Listserve is running!

Not ours, actually, but the State Greens'. And not one, but two. Here's the Maine Green Listserve Page. Sign up. Weigh in.

Our Newspaper is out!

Not ours, actually, but the quarterly rag of the State Greens. Here it is - the Green Monitor. Also, you might want to take a look at the latest Green Pages, the newspaper of the national Green Party.

Our Elections - Greens win locally in Maine!

None in the Midcoast (yet), but Richmond, Topsham, and Brunswick now have Green Select and City Council folk. Portland has a new Green School Board Committee member. The Bangor and Saco City Councils just missed out on having Green representation. And Portlands's West End has a Green way up in the State Legislature.

Closer to home, Oliver Outerbridge and Betsy Garrold ran in Waldo County for, respectively, Senate District 11 and House District 110. Over across the Bay, Christine West shot for House District 128. They did well. Expect more hats in the ring next time around.

Here's an up-to-date list of all the Greens running in Maine. For the bigger picture, check out the latest on all Green candidates nationwide since '86.

Local Caucuses held!

Back last winter, the Midcoast Greens held caucuses in Camden, Rockland, Rockport, Lincolnville and St. George. These were so in demand that at three the Green Gubernatorial nominees showed up to stump. All in all, we met our obligations to MGIP and the State Attorney General; took some names and clean campaign donations; and roundly congratulated ourselves on being active, Green, and on the Side of Right.
